Thank you for showing interesting in volunteering with The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (“SPJA”). SPJA is a non-profit organization dedicated towards promoting Japanese animation and culture. Please remember that all positions are volunteer and are not paid or compensated in any way. If you have already applied and registered through the Shiftboard database, do not re-apply.

Volunteer Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old by May 1st of the year you wish to volunteer. All volunteers must be 18 before beginning any volunteer work or training. (i.e. To volunteer for Anime Expo 2030, you must be at least 18 years old by May 1, 2030.)
• Must have a minimum of 40-hour commitment scheduled (may include both pre-con and at-con hours).
• Must be available for all of the Anime Expo show dates. Some departments may require earlier onsite arrival.
• Complete Shiftboard Volunteer Application and Shiftboard Profile.
• Complete Anime Expo Volunteer Checklist:
• Complete Volunteer Onboarding Forms.
• Complete a background check.
• Complete Youth Protection Policy (YPP) courses.
• Complete volunteer department-specific training and requirements.
• Adhere to all SPJA Volunteer Policies and Guidelines.

Profile Photo Requirements

Your photo should look like a passport/driver’s license type photo. Please no masks, filters, hats, sunglasses, pets or friends. It must be 500 x 500 pixels. Pictures must be in standard image formats, like .jpg, .gif, or .png. Members cannot use filters, animated images or videos for their picture. Images that do not meet these requirements, will be removed and will be asked to reupload a new photo. *Disclaimer: Uploading a photo will NOT interfere with your application process. Your profile photo will be used as identification for your badge at Anime Expo.
